One in ten electric vehicle owners eventually faces the challenge of engine repairs. That’s where Amber, a startup born in San Francisco, steps in, reshaping the EV experience with a warranty platform and remote diagnostics that keep you confidently on the road. Wondering how Amber’s got your back when it matters most?
It’s no secret that in 2024, we’re still exploring the unknown when it comes to EVs and how they hold up after years on the road.
Despite the fact that EVs require less maintenance than traditional cars, when a problem occurs, it can become irreversible. Some repair shops can even suggest scrapping the vehicle. Also, many extended warranties don’t cover EV-specific parts.
This gap is fueling a growing market for used EVs.
Amber addresses this problem with flexible warranty plans, protecting car owners from costly repairs and premature disposal. Amber’s monthly subscription covers drive units, batteries, and more — with a warranty, you’ll never have to worry about breakdowns again.
Being part of Amber Care means one thing: your EV journey becomes much more trouble-free.
The project’s vision was fascinating: to change the EV insurance experience and meet the real needs of EV owners. Amber needed a partner who could take a deep dive into the nuances of EV warranties. Overcode was that partner: we conducted a deep research phase and created an easy-to-use and robust Amber Care interface that feels like second nature.
We didn’t just focus on creating a stylish, intuitive design. We worked to understand the mindset of the EV owners and create a fast and reliable tool for them. From gathering basic vehicle data to analyzing usage and selecting warranty options, we’ve developed a system that anticipates the user’s needs at every touchpoint.
What was the most exciting challenge? Integrating Tesla’s software (with the customer’s permission) and then producing a report. Users can connect their car to Amber Care and instantly transfer key data: odometer readings, VIN, and manufacturing details are synchronized automatically. Manual data entry is a thing of the past, allowing for effortless operation at all times.
Amber Care is a powerful, user-friendly application with high-quality technical solutions to take EV insurance to new heights.
Our goal was to support the user during their interaction with the app. We started with a clear plan of action: researching the data needed from users to qualify for warranty options and identifying any potential issues they might face along the way.
In-depth research helped us create two consistent user flows — one for those who prefer to enter data manually and another for users willing to connect their vehicles to the app.
Amber Care was developed from the ground up using React.js, Next.js, and Supabase. The Overcode team refactored the original codebase and migrated the data to PostgreSQL to improve the reliability of the application.
The final development challenge was the Smartcar API integration, allowing users to quickly share vehicle data with our platform.
With Amber Care, EV owners now have a SaaS app that provides a whole new level of support and peace of mind while operating their cars.
